May Message from our CEO

In celebration of mental health month, I want to take a moment to reflect upon how far we have come in helping to change the law enforcement culture in regard to seeking mental health and wellness support.  While there is still work to be done to break down the stigma attached to recognizing the need and seeking help for mental health related support, we have seen much improvement over the years.  Through the visionary efforts of ICAC Commanders, who were first to identify and seek assistance for their people, to all the content experts who generously shared their knowledge to collaborate with The Innocent Justice Foundation to create SHIFT (Supporting Heroes in mental health Foundational Training), we developed a nationally recognized training program to support the mission of ICAC.  We feel an immense sense of gratitude and honor to all those who have supported TIJF and SHIFT and to the law enforcement professionals we have met and educated over the years.  We remain committed to delivering the most salient information and relevant tools and techniques to support wellness and resiliency to all law enforcement and affiliated agencies in an effort to enhance individual and team wellness and help build trauma informed communities.

As it happens, National Police Week is also being celebrated this month.  Not only do we have an opportunity to celebrate all the advancements made in mental health awareness, we also have a chance to mark the huge contributions made by members of the law enforcement community and honor the sacrifices of those who have given so much in the service of justice and freedom.  We are extremely fortunate to work closely with some of the most talented and committed professionals within the law enforcement field. We are so proud of the individuals on our SHIFT team who share their expertise and commitment to officer safety and wellness.  Beginning May 14th through May 21st, we will honor our law enforcement trainers by sharing a daily profile to highlight their individual contributions.  The work we have accomplished over the past decade could not have been done without their efforts.
